Cholera is an extremely dangerous bacterial infection which is particularly prevalent in areas with limited access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare. Symptoms typically affect the gastrointestinal system and can quickly become very severe. It causes a rapid loss of fluids and electrolytes through severe diarrhoea and vomiting which can lead to severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and shock. Without rapid treatment, cholera can be fatal and the cholera vaccine is the best protection against this seriously nasty disease.
