Food allergies are caused by the body’s immune response to non-harmful substances in food, which can lead to rashes, shortness of breath and abdominal symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea. Within the general population, food allergies are on the rise. The reason for this remains unclear, but food allergy testing can help you avoid uncomfortable or distressing symptoms and put your mind at ease about the foods you can safely eat. Common allergens include peanuts, eggs, shellfish and cow’s milk. At Torchwood Pharmacy, we offer allergy testing for over forty foods, and will tailor our service to each individual depending on the symptoms you have been experiencing.
At Touchwood Pharmacy, we offer food allergy testing including an allergy blood test if required. At our Walsall pharmacy, appointments can be booked online at a time to suit you and your consultation will be held with an experienced pharmacist. After discussing your concerns about food allergies, the pharmacist will be able to suggest which form of allergy testing you might require. Testing ranges from elimination diets, to skin prick testing, to an allergy blood test. Our tests are quick and less invasive than a standard blood test as we are able to take a small sample of blood from the fingertip or earlobe.
Once the results of your food allergy testing are back, the findings are used to advise on food avoidance and any appropriate treatments you might need to consider depending on the severity of the allergy. Treatment options may need to be discussed with your GP, and medications deemed necessary could include antihistamines or emergency treatments.
Allergy testing is a positive way to begin life afresh whilst knowing for sure which foods you can comfortably eat.Allergic reactions can vary from inconvenient to life-threatening, and deciding to undergo allergy testing can give you the freedom to enjoy food without fear.
