What are the types of Cholera vaccines available for travellers?

There are two types of cholera vaccines available for travellers: the oral cholera vaccine and the injectable cholera vaccine.

The oral cholera vaccine (OCV) is given as two doses, at least one week apart, and provides protection for up to two years. This vaccine is given in liquid form, and the first dose should be taken at least two weeks before travel to ensure adequate protection. The oral cholera vaccine is safe for most people, but it is not recommended for pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems.

The injectable cholera vaccine (ICV) is given as a single shot and provides protection for up to six months. This vaccine is given in the arm, and the first dose should be taken at least ten days before travel. The injectable cholera vaccine is safe for most people, but it is not recommended for children under the age of one.
