What is impetigo?

Impetigo is a common, contagious skin infection caused by bacteria, usually Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. It causes red, itchy sores with honey-coloured scabs, most often around the face, arms, and legs.

How do I know if I have impetigo?

Look for red, itchy sores that break open and weep clear fluid or pus, then crust over with a honey-colored scab. The good news is that you no longer need to visit the GP to have impetigo diagnosed and treated. The Pharmacy First Impetigo service at Touchwood Pharmacy Northampton (NN2 and NN5 locations) should be your first stop.

How is the Pharmacy First treatment different from the GP?

The Pharmacy First Impetigo service accesses the same medicines your GP would to treat your symptoms. Our experienced pharmacists see patients from all over the region including Rugby, Kettering and Corby. Pop in today for a Pharmacy First consultation and get the medicines you need to start treating impetigo.
