What are the Benefits of Yellow Fever Vaccination?

Yellow Fever Vaccination - Touchwood Pharmacy

Whether you are a seasoned traveller or this is your first time going abroad, you should know that due to different diseases and levels of vaccine uptake around the world, you may have vaccine requirements to fulfil before you board any plane. Even if you have had a vaccination previously, if you cannot prove it, you’ll need to provide proof of it, and if you cannot, you may not be permitted entry into your destination country. Yellow fever is one such vaccination.

Yellow Fever is a serious infection spread by mosquitoes.  It’s found in parts of Africa, South America, Central America, as well as parts of the Caribbean. Symptoms of this illness range from fever and body aches or pains to severe liver disease with bleeding and yellowing skin known as jaundice. There is no medicine to treat or cure a yellow fever infection. However, there is an extremely effective vaccine against yellow fever which protects the vaccinated up to 99%. Touchwood Pharmacy has yellow fever vaccinations available in our Northampton, Streatham and Ramsgate vaccination clinics.

Benefits of Yellow Fever Vaccine

For most people, a yellow fever vaccine means protection against the disease for life.

Further doses are recommended for a small number of people who are visiting yellow fever endemic areas and fell into any of the following categories at the time of their initial yellow fever vaccine:

  • Pregnant
  • Under the age of 2
  • Had a weakened immune system or live with HIV
